Munken Combi Winter Holiday

A week combining dog driving with
ski-tours, and other activities such as
snowshoe tours, tobogganing, driving timber
and sleighs with horses, horse- riding,
ice fishing, farm visits, making food in the
light of aurora borealis and the flames from
our campfire.

Snow caves are being built in the yard;
you can make your own bedroom in the igloo
next to the house. Or do you want to spend
the night in the Tipi-camp further down on
the farm?

Our flexible program contains enough to
keep you occupied for weeks, but you shall
find time to rest and relax.
Just make the most of it

A meeting with the elements for all
those that are not looking for the extreme
experience. Still our tours are somehow
designed to stretch ones own limits within
safe frames.

The Munken Combi is the most varied winter holiday you can imagine;
You come to a farm with a couple of
horses, some hens, 50 husky dogs,
good accommodation, friendly atmosphere
and possibilities to have good outdoor
experiences. Our guests say they could hear
the silence. Or was it howling huskies?

Sunday
Arrival. Check out the place and settle in. We equip you with boots and additional warm clothing.
Welcome dinner with traditional Scandinavian dishes.
Talks around the week ahead of us..

Monday
Breakfast. Meeting dogs and horses.
Take part in the morning chorus in the dog yard.

If you are a beginner, or want to refresh your knowledge of how to
drive a sled, we would like to take a round with you standing on the
sled runners for the first time being towed behind a snowmobile.
This gives you the time to get into handling of a sled without dogs to begin with.

We take our first husky tour after lunch. We practise a little snowshoeing after the tour, probably with headlamps on.

We could take some puppies with us for a walk in the forest.
Or you might want to try a
SPARK -this lovely little sled functions
like a kick bike, and is the most original way of transporting oneself
around the village.

Tuesday
Cross Country Skiing. Never tried it before? We help you with
basic instructions in the art of ski touring. We have some very simple
tracks around, true beginners conditions.  Or you are experienced
and will enjoy the challenge of the vast forests of Sweden .

At noon we line up the dog teams and head for lake Raftsjøen .
We park the dogs by the trees along the shore, and have our lunch at
a wind-shelter by the shore of the ice-covered lake.
We are now ready to test our skills with ice fishing. We make holes
in the ice, and start fishing. Should we have the luck to catch a few
char or trout, is our main dish for the evening secured.

Imagine something as delicious as freshly caught fish
and potatoes, some salad to go with it?

Wednesday
Sled-dog tour in the morning.
Barbeque lunch in our grill-tipi at the farm.
Our nearby ski lift is the centre for the tobogganing in the afternoon.
It’s exhilarating to race down the slops on plastic mats, flying saucers,
toboggans or snow racers. If Kim doesn’t pick us up with horse and
sleigh before dark, we return home as we came: on the snowmobile.

Some of our guests enjoy an artistic expression through carving sculptures in frozen ice blocks. You are welcome to give it a go.

Our masseur Lena comes in the afternoon and offers
a massage to our guests. On the house.

Thursday
The day is open. Dog sledding? Yes, most people want to do a tour
with the dogs. It’s good for the dogs to get out on a run. Cross country
skiing? The skiing has for our guests been a very mixed experience.
Some couldn’t get enough, some did after the first go. Give it a chance.
Snowshoeing, maybe? Tobogganing has proved very popular.

Winter Walking sounds a bit strange to a Scandinavian.
But why not wander along, it’s bound to be very healthy.
There are several thousand kilometres of hard packed snowmobile
trails throughout Sweden, perfectly suitable for hikes.
From Munken you easily have more than enough for a long
daytrip taking you in different directions each day, if you so wish.
There are some shelters along, where you can make a fire
and eat your lunch.

Friday
We get our dog teams ready shortly after breakfast.
We make it a full day excursion, in a lovely forest area,
where the silence of the true wilderness will sink into you.
40- 50 kilometres ride. Pick nick lunch.

Back at Munkgården, the Sauna should be ready for us.
We round off our week with the best of local cuisine;
Elk à la Kimi.

We have a number of films about dogdriving, competitions and expeditions. You want to watch one after dinner?

Saturday.
Breakfast. Departure.
