The Tour
A normal day on tour - to the extent we can talk of such a thing:
Getting oneself out of the sleeping bag as early as one can get round to do so
(for some the hardest part of the day), get out, morning toilet, breakfast for dogs, breakfast for people, break camp, packing and get ready.
Most likely start driving around 11.00, enjoying a packed lunch in the afternoon sun, meat snack to the dogs, driving to whenever it suits to stop,
its often a matter of finding a good place to camp, dogs parked on stake out lines,
prepare evening meal for dogs, tents put up, supper, prepare feed for next day,
talking ,singing?, sleeping.
Most of this works very well when the group has settled in
and each member has figured his/her tasks.
Distance
The stretch from Hemavan to Abisko along Kungsleden is 450 kilometers.
Our Back up
A truck/trailer/service team will be following the trip supplying us with food
and fodder, equipment and could pick up dogs if injuries or other needs
should request this.
Crossing the finish line
We will finish our trip at Abisko Turiststation (www.abisko.nu) on Saturday 12th April. We have booked in 2 roomy cabins and will have our final party at the tourist station restaurant/bar. The dogs will have their well earned rest in their straw beds in the truck/trailer.
Departure
The huskies will be transported back home on the truck/trailer
at the end of the expedition.
2 legged fellow travelers fly home from Kiruna,
plane option no 1 is Sunday 13/4 at 14.05 to Stockholm.
Tour Summary
Days will guaranteed be long and strenuous and therefore only suitable for
people with a good stamina and will to push themselves beyond the average,
what ever that is? We don't expect you to be super fit, but lets face it;
this is a winter expedition in the northern most regions of Scandinavia,
it offers the best possible outdoor experience available, but 10 days+ of winter
camping, + a couple of nights in a shelter - as well as taking care of your dogs
and long but rewarding days of travel can take its toll on any adventurer.
The tour is equally suitable for men and women.
Huskies on a dogsledding adventure is a 24/7 commitment.
Your care for the dogs will to a large extent determine the success of this undertaking. Healthy happy dogs are the key to our success.
We shall have no less fun than what we had on the Minitarod 2007.
