Hamlets puppies already some 3 weeks old
- weighed today, 9 more even pups
I never had; 1800-1900 grams.
They didn't seem to particularly enjoy the worm
cure they got, but it will do them good.
Will give them a new round in a couple of weeks.
All pups are very cute.
They are still no name puppies,
but we have got many Q-suggestions.

Congratulation Hamlet – nine healthy, strong puppies.
3 girls and 6 boys. I have a principal of leaving bitches in peace when they are
in the process of giving birth. Hamlets whelping yesterday was the exception.
She has given birth twice before, litter of 6 (Julius, Jessie, Jenna, Jesobel,
June, Jotul) in 2004 and 5 (Krut, Kosmos, Munken, Filura, Elmo) in 2005.
It is hard to say that some dog is better than any other, but Hamlet comes over
the lips when answering the question of what is your best dog.
For us that means working capacity as a sled dog. Looking at Frodo’s working
capacity and mentality I didn't think it was a great idea to cross her with Frodo,
but I felt like going new ways and lines, and Frodo comes from some of the maybe
best long distance lines in the world, which in itself is no guarantee,
but genetically the opportunity is there, more so than it would be from
the local street mix. Hamlet is a large female. Frodo is no way a big male.
They are both leaders, which is a valid point for choosing. I hope to get away
from small females, which has mostly been the case with what we have been breeding
over the last years. Size is supposed not to be important, just that it doesn't work that
way in all matters. Another reason for using a stud from our own kennel was that we
had no way we could take the time when both Husky Holiday and Hamlet
were in the middle of the season, not normally a good argument, but reality.
Many of our dogs (Hamlet) stem from the best available long distance lines in
Norway, Frodo is from Jeff Kings lines in Alaska. With the wide spread of genetical
material we have there could be every reason to keep breeding internally,
except we do not have super leaders to breed from.
Here we had dogs filling criteria’s such as good coat, good feet, good temper,
good health, do not stiffen up easily etc.
Back to the birth-i thought it was fun for ones watching and photographing,
to the extent it is possible when Hamlet is whelping in her box.
I think it is important that the bitch should give birth where she feels familiar and safe. Comfort for dogs is not the same as for humans.
She didn't seem to mind me hanging about.
When a pregnant bitch skips the evening meal the time is usually there.
The first 2 were out at 08.50, then they came steadily, some 2 at a time,
and on my last visit around 21.00 I made it 9-Q9.
They are mostly grey, dark grey, light grey, how to distinguish? 6 boys, 3 girls.
Hamlet is normally a very good eater, which is an absolutely first criteria for a good
sled dog. The eating (and drinking) is of course essential now if she shall give the
newborn huskies a good start. She has a lot to look after, she takes great care
of her pups. Good luck Hamlet.The birth; yes very nice to follow it closely today.
Left her in peace in-between my frequent visits, she was perfectly happy about
having human company, not quite so happy about me picking up a puppy.
It was fun to see how they have grown in their first 24 hours (or less).
And have now a look at O’Leary’s -Petrus, Polly and Pippi.
They are soon ready for the harness. Well, they had better open their eyes first.
We remove the dew claws on Saturday, Kim's job, I hold, Kim hates it,
but does it well, no problem. Dew claws have no function, one certainly avoids
problems with use of booties when they are gone.
We will cut their nails and give worm cure in some 10-12 days time.
Both to be repeated a few times.Puppies for walks and play, socialization
and training over the next few months, and at Christmas it is time to harness up
and start the first tours pulling the sled.
Q-tips, Quattro, Q8, Quincy, Queen, Quick(-silver), Quantas, Quasimodo, Qupa,
Quirinius, Quasir, Quigley, Quapaw, Quad - it is not so easy to find Q-names.
